The Ohlone otter’s name is Ofelia, and she is in the 4th grade. She lives in Moss Landing with her mom Sylvia, dad David, and her younger brother Oscar; who is just about to start pre-school.

Ofelia is awaken every mourning by the Moss Landing work whistle, which marks the start of the power plants workday, and it lets her know to get ready for school. As Ofelia is getting out of her kelp bed, her dad is already up making breakfast. Her favorite meal is snail-burritos; yummy.

While Ofelia and Oscar are at school learning, Ofelia’s parents are at their work in the Monterey bay clearing the kelp of sea urchins. Ofelia’s parents have an important job, because if they don’t keep the sea urchin population down, then the sea urchins will grow to be too many, and eat all the food in the Monterey bay; leaving nothing for all the other animals that call the Monterey bay their home; including Ofelia and her family.
